A culture of service From a collaborative, family team
Barbara is most passionate about helping independent women feel empowered by their financial choices. When unexpected life events occur, such as losing a spouse through death or divorce, the emotional challenges are immense and financial concerns can seem overwhelming. Barbara helps our clients stay grounded, providing both compassion and guidance as they work through these difficult situations. Her goal is to help each client take control of their financial life with confidence, so they can experience the liberation that comes with having a clear path and plan for their future.
Barbara also works with institutional clients, assisting foundations and other tax-exempt organizations to better manage their resources. She helps volunteer board members fulfill their fiduciary obligations and meet the special needs of their organization.
Since joining Kooman & Associates in 1999, Barbara has helped define the firm’s culture of service and putting client needs first. She values the deep and long-term relationships we have with our clients and is proud of the fact that her family has helped hundreds of other families pursue their financial dreams. She is thrilled that her daughter Kate has decided to carry on this family tradition.
A graduate of Penn State University, Barbara holds FINRA Series 7, 63 and 65 licenses, as well as a Pennsylvania resident insurance producer license. Prior to joining the Kooman & Associates team, she spent many years in the local news media and as a Dale Carnegie instructor. She is an enthusiastic volunteer, currently serving as a board member on the UPMC Foundation for Life and the finance committee for the Diocese of Altoona-Johnstown. Barbara is also a member of the WE-LEaD committee for the Blair County Chamber of Commerce and volunteers with Altoona Community Theatre. Barbara and Marty have two children: Michael, a music composer in New York City, and Kate, a second-generation Kooman & Associates team member.
